Ten sentenced of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the wife of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

The those on trial faced accusations of circulating false claims regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing malicious remarks about the couple's 24-year age gap.

The court handed down suspended jail terms of as much as eight months to the defendants. The complete verdict has yet to be released.

A longstanding conspiracy theory suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has spread widely since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.

This Monday's court decision in France is concurrent with the Macrons engaging in a legal action for defamation in the United States of America against political commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the first lady's biological sex.

Their lawsuit states that Owens disregarded any factual proof disproving her claim opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.

Owens has often echoed these assertions on her show and social networks, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.

Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her now-husband when she was a teacher at his lycée.

The two married in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
