The network's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network unveiled a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often defined by dark humor, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who found the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about following this charming family navigate their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to evolve comedy past its long-running sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to enjoy the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
